Groovie!

During my late spring visit to the Texas’ Rio Grande River Valley area, I was able to photograph several “life” birds. Today’s post includes some images I was able to capture of one such bird, the Groove-billed Ani (Crotophaga sulcirostris) The Ani family is similar, but unrelated, to the Grackles. Instead, they are in the Cuckoo family.

As it’s name implies, the Groove-billed Ani’s bill contains grooves, which can be difficult to see. However, someone upstairs smiled down upon me as I photographed these large birds:
