Meet Ray(s)

Other interesting creatures we saw in the Sea of Cortez were rays, the very large Manta Ray (Manta birostris):

 

and Smooth-tailed Mobula Rays (Mobula thurstoni), a much smaller version of the Manta Ray:

In the above image, you can see Mobula Rays feeding on krill at the surface. The small, pinkish “flecks” are the krill jumping about.

 

Mobula Ray jumps out of the water

Above, a Mobula Ray jumps out of the water, an interest phenomenon that we saw quite often.
