During a recent kayak outing near my home, I was surprised to see this Red-shouldered Hawk (Buteo lineatus) flying over the kayak, at a low altitude. A few short years ago, this would have been a rare sight. But the Red-shouldered hawk’s range has been constantly expanding in our area and today it is quite common to see one. Beautiful birds!
