Maroon Creek … Not Your Usual Creek

While camping at Maroon Bells, I couldn’t wait to hike to Maroon Creek and photograph the beautiful scenery along the creek. Maroon Creek is not your typical creek. It is a shallow-running creek, actually more like a beautiful mountain stream, with many small waterfalls and colorful rocks and fallen trees. Maroon Creek originates at Maroon Lake, which is the foreground for the beautiful Maroon Bells peaks (I’ll share some pics of the Bells, soon). Having photographed this area previously, I was doing a lot of thinking about how I’d photograph this area, without simply duplicating what I’ve done previously. After sitting a while and surveying the landscape, I came up with some ideas to break down the overall scenery into smaller “pieces”, to give a different look to the area.

Here are a few of my favorite images of Maroon Creek, both larger views, as well as some of the “smaller pieces” I photographed. I’ve got quite a few images in this post … it was difficult to separate out my favorites! Oh, and remember the posts from Glacier NP? I mentioned that I loved to capture running water in a dreamy, ethereal look, which you’ll see in these images.

I’ve always been captivated by these moss-covered rocks. Something always beckons me back to them! And the colorful rocks that you can see under the rushing water … oh, so tantalizing!:

In another post, I’ll feature the famous Maroon Bells, the twin peaks that overlook the Maroon Lake. Not only did I catch a beautiful sunrise on the peaks, but had an added bonus … a nice moon above them, in the early morning sky!
