The Cascades

My last post featured the wonderful Cascade Waterfall at Cascade State Park, along Minnesota’s North Shore. Today’s post features the same river, just upstream of where the Cascade Falls are located. Although not much drop in height, the water rushes so quickly among the rocks that this type of water feature makes some wonderful photography, especially when shot at slow shutter speeds to get the ethereal look:

Again, some majestic fall colors would have been nice … but I enjoyed the water, anyway!

Photo Equipment Used:

  • Canon 1D Mark III body
  • Canon 28mm-135mm lens (shot between 35mm and 60mm)
  • Bogen 3221 Tripod, with Kirk Ent. Ballhead
  • Neutral Density filter, solid, 2-stop
  • ISO 200
  • Aperture f/29
  • Shutter Speed 0.8 to 1 second
