Caution: Spiders Lie Ahead, in this blog post!!!

Here is one of my first blog posts, from 2009. I just had to “dust the cobwebs off” :o)

With the recent weather a bit less conducive to getting the kayak (“Rubber Duckie”) out, I have spent some time shooting some Garden Spiders. I currently have 6 of these beautiful orb spiders that have staked claim to part of my greenhouse. Here are a couple of my favorites.

Here is a Garden Spider, encasing a grasshopper inside a silky cocoon:

And this interesting shot, which I’ve titled “Just Hanging Around on the Web”:

The orb garden spiders are a favorite photo subject for me. And I often find similar orb spiders on the prairie!

  • Lavender Cottage

Great photos. I have an appreciation for orb spiders too as they are frequent visitors on our deck in summer. I’ve not seen any wrapped meals hanging around though.

  • Thanks, Lavender Cottage! What’s really interesting to to be able to watch the spider as he wraps up his meal … or watch one as he spins his web :o)
