Green on Green

aka, Green Heron (Butorides virescens) in the Green Cay Wetlands. These guys are typically hard to approach when I find them back home (Missouri), but along the Green Cay boardwalk, this guy was not very far away, yet not afraid of people passing on the boardwalk. Here are a few of my favorite images of this beautiful  bird:

  • Canon 7D body
  • Canon EF100mm-400mm, f/4.5 – f/5.6, IS lens, from 235mm to 400mm
  • Handheld, with IS “On”
  • ISO 400
  • Aperture f/5.6
  • Shutter 1/2000 sec. to 1/2500 sec.

    I have noticed that green herons seem to be particularly shy! Very nice lighting in these photographs :)
