A Little Snow on the Beach

While photographing birds on the beach at St. Petersburg, this Snowy Egret (Egretta thula) flew in and foraged along the edge of a little pool of water. As he approached us, I captured this image: Snowy Egret flying to the beach Settling on the beach, this little beauty preened a bit and posed for us: Snowy Egret on the beach Snowy Egret on the beach Snowy Egret on the beach Snowy Egret on the beach As he walked over to a nearby pool, we followed and soon saw what he was after: Minnows The Snow Egret is a beautiful bird. Smaller than a Great Egret, it’s most recognizable feature is it’s “Golden Slippers”. It’s always fun to be with these birds. Photographic Equipment Used:

  • Canon 1D Mark 3 body + Canon 1.4x TC, shot from 280mm to 420 mm
  • Canon EF100mm-400mm, f/4.5 – f/5.6, IS lens
  • Handheld, with IS “On”
  • ISO 500
  • Aperture f/8
  • Shutter 1/1600 sec. – 1/2000 sec.
