While in Everglades NP this winter, I came across this Red-bellied Woodpecker (Melanerpes carolinus), hanging upside-down from a tree along the Anhinga Trail, just hanging out:
Sex of this bird can be determined by it’s midcrown color … males have a red midcrown, while the female has a tan midcrown.
