Upon arrival at Prairie State Park (southwest Missouri) recently, I found this Horned Lark (Eremophila alpestris) as he foraged around Gayfeather Prairie. At one point, he flew onto a buffalo chip, among the wildflowers, allowing me to photograph him in the patch of white:
If you look closely, you will see his “horns” of feathers on top of his head.
