Beaver Pond Trail

While in Glacier NP, one morning I decided to hike the Beaver Pond trail, near St. Mary Lake. The day before, I had talked to one of the Park Rangers about wildflower locations and he recommend that I hike the Beaver Pond trail, as he had recently hiked it and found lots of wildflowers in bloom on the several meadows that this trail traverses. I was not disappointed! Here is one of my favorite images from the largest meadow:

And a closeup of the many different wildflower species:

What a lovely hike … and in the background (of the first image) is one of the mountain peaks that sit behind St. Mary Lake.

Photographic Equipment Used:

  • Canon 5D Mark 3 body
  • Canon EF28-135mm, f/3.5-5.6, IS lens, shot at 135mm (top image) and 50mm (bottom image)
  • Handheld, with IS “On”
  • ISO 800 (high ISO used since I had no tripod with me on the hike)
  • Aperture f/22
  • Shutter 1/200 sec. (top image) and 1/25 sec. (bottom image)
