During my second visit to Crystal Lake (Colorado), I found a single Fireweed (Chamerion danielsii) growing. Here are a couple of images I captured from this lone plant:
This beautiful wildflower blooms from the bottom, up. And only a few reddish-purple flowers bloom at a time. The common name of Fireweed is derived from it’s ability to rapidly colonize recently-burned areas after a forest fire … not from it’s reddish color.
