Rocky Mountain High

On the last day in Rocky Mountain NP, on my recent trip there, I decided to take Trail Ridge Road all the way to the top and over to the west side, near Grand Lake. I’ve never been all the way over to the west side, so wasn’t sure what to expect.

Probably the “best” find of the day was a group of 8 Bighorn Sheep rams that were near the alpine area of the road. As I came around a corner, I saw the group as they were lying not far off the road, taking a rest. This was the first time I’ve ever seen Bighorn Sheep in the park, although I’ve read that they can be found here. I pulled over (fortunately, there was a roadside parking area nearby) and grabbed a few images before I continued westward. Here are a few of my favorite images:

  • Handheld, with IS “On”
  • ISO 250

  • Shutter 1/100 sec. to 1/1600 sec. (bottom image)
