Fun Friday: ‘You Up For a Swim?’

While photographing at Quivira NWR (Kansas), a rather odd behavior played out in front of me … a buck and doe white-tailed deer, wading and playing in the refuge waters at Big Salt Marsh. And not for a short time, but they were in the water for several hours! Most of the time they were simply wading and walking around the pool, but there were times of apparent play (or, possibly pre-mating behavior), where one would chase the other! Here is a photo I captured of the pair in the water:

  • Bogen 3221 tripod with Wemberly gimbal head
  • ISO 800
  • Aperture f/5.6
  • Shutter 1/1250 sec.
