Sunset Over Big Salt Marsh

While photographing migrating birds at Quivira NWR (Kansas) last month, a wonderful sunset greeted us on our first evening. When the colors started to really “boil”, tons of birds began returning to the refuge for overnight roosting:

It seems like the most awesome sunsets occur over National Wildlife Refuges. It makes especially pleasing photography whenever the migrating birds appear in the brilliantly-colored skies.

Photographic Equipment Used:

  • Canon 7D body
  • Canon EF 100mm-400mm, f/4.5-f/5.6 IS lens, shot at 100mm to 400mm
  • Handheld, with IS “On”
  • ISO 400
  • Aperture f/5.6
  • Shutter 1/250 sec. to 1/500 sec.
