A Great Start!

Over the next few posts, I’m going to share some images captured along the orca-rich waters of British Columbia. I was on a 9-day boat ride, beginning at Port McNeill (near the northernmost part of Vancouver Island), and ending at Friday Harbor, off the coast of Washington. This trip was one of my all-time favorite trips and I’m hoping that some day I can do that trip again! There was so much to see and do … and orcas everyday! I just wish I had the advanced knowledge and experience, and the equipment that I now have! This trip was unique in that we had a veterinary researcher on board with us from start to finish, as well as meeting and talking to several other orca reseachers along the way.

Our first stop, after leaving Port McNeill, was to Sointula, British Columbia, where we met several researchers for a presentation and Q&A. But as we were pulling the boat into Sointula, a family of River Otters was busy fishing and scrambling around the rocks that line the harbor. Here are a few images captured of these cute little guys:

Not sure exactly how many otters were there, at least 4 or 5. But all were very active and put on quite a show! I’m really hoping that I can make this trip again, one of these days! :o)
