Golden White

These American Goldfinch (Spinus tristis) images were captured immediately after a brief snowfall, a few mornings ago in rural Cass County, Missouri, near my home:

Goldfinches are very common in my area. During the cold, winter months, I have often counted 30+ of these beauties on my front porch, feeding from our bird feeders.

Photographic Equipment Used:

  • Canon 5D Mark 3 body
  • Canon EF 100mm-400mm, f/4.5-f/5.6 IS lens, with Canon 1.4x TC, shot at 560mm
  • Handheld, with IS “On”
  • ISO 500
  • Aperture f/8
  • Shutter 1/400 sec.

    Hi Jim!

Gosh it has been forever since I have been able to actually stop and enjoy your wonderful pics..I have a lot of catching up to do! I have had an extraordinary three months with eight close friends losing either parents or a sibling..all of us 50’s and 60’s and it seems like I have been in a completely other world…so glad to see your ‘spot’ again…

Anyway, things seem to be settling now and I will enjoy some R and R with a cup of tea in the morning and peruse your artwork :) I hope you and your wonderful ‘squirrel photo taking’ wife are both well and surviving the weather…the Pacific NW is now the new spot to visit in the winter, it’s been so mild and pleasant, comparatively, apart from the first arctic blast that clipped us..but just for a few days and no snow on the ground…

The daffs are just about to bloom, grape hyacinth blooming and crocus too…the Canadian Geese left right on schedule to head north…Valentines Day :) and the week after..bless them and the red winged blackbirds are in full voice, pileated woodpecker and all the other sweet smaller birds…been an easy winter for them all, I’m so glad…

Well I am so glad I stopped in I just have another 431 emails to get through????? ..I think a quick glance and delete..although the way things have been I don’t want to miss anything important…lol…Cookie cat is sound asleep on the couch in front of the fire, a little more gray around the chin, but still as feisty as ever..having a bit of a struggle to get to the crows nest on the roof..he likes to sit on the chimney..lol.. so I am thinking some sort of ramp into life so he can get back up there, just doesn’t have the spring to make it quite that high any more…I can completely relate..laughing…but we are both in good spirits…

Well I had best stop this is your page not a social blog..I am just so happy to be here again, it feels like one of my secret ‘hideaways’ on the net..lol..I have a few…I do particularly like yours though..smiling…as I said I hope you and your family are well and that you have a good week ahead…I wonder if you can even SEE the good earth..are you snow bound?? or ice….

Big hugs, fondly..Wendy and Cookie cat xox :)

  • Glad you stopped by, Wendy! Sorry to say I join your “club”, as my dad passed on Feb. 12. You’ll see a memorial post as you “catch up”. We are surviving the weather, but awfully cold :o) But I enjoy cold weather (prefer it over the hot, humid stuff we get in summer). The snow is about gone, but 2 more possible rounds over the next 6 days!

Glad you are well and back in circulation! And Cookie cat’s idea of sitting in front of the fire sounds good to me! :o) Wishing you a grand week, my friend! :o)
