Bronzed Grackles in the Snow

While photographing at my front porch birdfeeders, a group of Bronzed Grackles (Quiscalus quiscula) also came in to forage for seeds. These beautiful birds are quite large (about 12″ long) and were rather difficult to keep within the frame. I just love the iridescent colors that the males exhibit. Here are a couple of images I captured. The female:

  • Canon 5D Mark 3 body
  • Canon EF 500mm, f/4 IS lens + extension tube (to focus closer)
  • Bogen 3221 tripod, with Wimberly gimbal head
  • ISO 1250
  • Aperture f/6.3
  • Shutter 1/500 sec.
