Those Blue Days of Winter

Today’s post features a common bird, but one that is primarily seen in winter. The Blue Jay (Cyanocitta cristata) is one of our most colorful birds, and one that is quite loud as it often is heard squawking at a feverish pitch. And more than once in my lifetime, I’ve been “dive bombed” by one of these colorful birds, particularly if one thinks you are getting too close to his nest! And I’ve seen many a cat running across the grass, trying to avoid the Blue Jay! Here are a few images I captured of this beautiful bird at my rural Missouri home, during winter:

As our winter winds down and spring approaches, I’m sure I will see less and less of this colorful “winter bird”.
