Over the weekend, I had a few errands to run around the big city (Kansas City), so I took my point/shoot camera (Canon PowerShot SX50 HS) along with me and stopped by a wonderful conservation area to check on the woodland wildflowers there. I was pleasantly surprised to see things were moving quite rapidly towards a spring showing! Here are a few of the images I captured:
One of the first things that caught my attention was this Missouri Dogwood in bloom:
As I rounded the trail and came upon some large boulders, I found several nice clumps of wild Columbine that were really looking nice:
And an unidentified plant growing in front of a small opening under a boulder:
Across the path, I found this wonderful little variegated woodland plant emerging from the leaf litter:
And as I neared the trail’s end, back at the parking lot, I came upon some colorful fungi:
A little later this week, I’m going back to my rural woodland to check on the progress there.
