Time For Some Woodies

We need some rain very badly right now. If nothing else, I could use some more water so I get my kayak out for some wood duck photography! Here are a few I’ve captured in the past few years:

These are all drakes (males), which are very colorful ducks. Very skittish, though, as they are hunted. Makes the job of capturing them a bit more difficult, but the kayak is a nice way to get somewhat close to them!

Photographic Equipment Used:

  • Canon 1D Mark 2 body
  • Canon EF 100mm-400mm, f/4.5-f/5.6 IS lens
  • Handheld, from the kayak, with IS “On”
  • ISO 200
  • Aperture f/8
  • Shutter 1/320 sec. to 1/400 sec.
