Photographing My BFF

My BFF (ButterFly Friend) happens to be a Red-spotted Purple that, along with Viceroys, are dominating my new butterfly garden that I planted last fall. I do have a few others that are busy collecting nectar from the garden, but the Red-spotted Purples and Viceroys are the dominant butterflies at this time. Here are a few of my favorite images of the Red-spotted Purple that I captured over the past few days:

In subsequent posts I’ll share other species of butterflies active now, as well as any other that shows up in the coming weeks (fall tends to attract a lot of butterflies and moths to my native plants).

  • Canon 7D Mark 2 body
  • Canon 100-400mm, f/4.5-5.6 IS lens
  • Handheld, with IS “On”
  • ISO 400
  • Aperture f/5.6
  • Shutter 1/1,000 sec. to 1/1,600 sec.
