A Chilling Encounter, Part 3

This is the third, and final post featuring images captured this past Monday evening as 2018’s first Super Moon rose above a farm grain silo that is near my rural Missouri home. As I drove to this location, clouds were really beginning to flow across the sky and the moon. Although I did not capture what I was trying to get (clear sky), I like the atmosphere the clouds give to the images. Here are my favorites:

I had planned on shooting the peak of the Quadrantids meteor shower late last night/early this morning, but the moon was too large/bright and too close from where these meteors would radiate from. So I had to take a pass!

Photographic Equipment Used:

  • Canon 5D Mark 3 body
  • Canon 100-400mm f/4.5 – f/5.6 IS lens (with IS “Off”), shot from 100mm to 400mm
  • Bogen 3221 tripod, with ballhead
  • ISO 400 (all images)
  • Aperture f/11 (all images)
  • Shutter 1/10 sec. to 1.2 sec.
