While editing some older, Alaska images, I ran across this one image that I don’t believe I ever posted. While photographing bald eagles in the Valley of Eagles (near Haines, Alaska), this adult eagle flew in and landed in a dead tree a short distance from me:
In this image, he is conversing with another eagle, perched a short distance below him.

- Canon 1D Mark 3 body
- Canon 100-400mm, f/4.5 – f/5.6 IS lens + Canon 1.4x TC (shot at 540mm)
- Handheld, with IS “On”
- ISO 800
- Aperture f/8
- Shutter 1/1250 sec.
