Black-Throated Blue Warblers

I’m now back home after a week’s trip to Nebraska and then to Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Quite a travel experience … I-29 roads are flooded in some areas, requiring detours, but the trip was otherwise good. I was able to spend some times at the falls in Sioux Falls … I’ll be sharing those images later.

Today’s post features the Black-throated Blue Warbler, which was a new bird for me. Such a colorful warbler! This warbler species was seen quite frequently while I navigated the boardwalk at Magee Marsh Wildlife Area, located in northern Ohio. Here are a few of my favorite Black-throated Blue Warbler images:

Coming up … more colorful warblers from Magee Marsh!

Photographic Equipment Used:

  • Canon 7D Mark 2 body
  • Canon 100-400mm, f/4.5-5.6 IS lens, shot from 235mm to 400mm
  • Handheld, with IS “On”
  • ISO 1000 and ISO 1600
  • Aperture f/5.6 (all images). Due to the frequent and sudden movements that warblers exhibit, a high ISO was required to assure any movement was “frozen”.
  • Shutter 1/160 sec. thru 1/800 sec.
