The Iridescent Bird

Today’s post features the Glossy Ibis, a very colorful wading bird often found in Florida. This medium-sized bird has a glossy iridescent bronze-green body color, that seems to change colors as the bird moves about and as seen from different viewing angles.

In these images, this bird is foraging in the Myakka River (Myakka River State Park, Florida) and captures a small snail:

When in Florida, I typically see a few of these birds as I travel about. Not nearly as many as the White Ibis, but much more colorful.

 

Photographic Equipment Used:

  • Canon 7D body
  • Canon 100-400mm f/4.5-f/5.6 IS lens
  • Handheld, with IS “On”
  • ISO 400
  • Aperture f/5.6
  • Shutter Speed 1/500 sec. and 1/640 sec.
