Surrounded by Ears

Today’s post features an image I captured a few days ago on our boat dock at the Lake of the Ozarks (Missouri). We have several potted plants on the dock, including a couple of very large pots of Elephant Ears. We’ve been planting these bulbs for a couple of years, but this year yielded a special surprise … both pots have plants that bloomed!

Here is one of the blooms that was covered up by the large ears of the plant:

Elephant Ear plant, with bloom

We’ve been watching to see if we can get some seeds off the plant, but so far we’ve been unable to find any. It seems that maybe the flowers are not being pollinated (?). But no harm, still a nice sight to see!
