Duck, Duck, Goose, …

… Deer?

Today’s post features an interesting shot I captured while photographing migrating Whooping Cranes at Quivira NWR, in central Kansas a few years ago.

While driving around the refuge, I came upon a bunch of ducks and geese, with a White-tailed deer buck following a doe through the refuge waters. Being late fall, the deer rut was in full swing and this guy had his eyes on this little lady:

Unfortunately, the whooping cranes had left the refuge, the night before this image was captured, as a hail storm came through the area.
