During my recent trip to Squaw Creek NWR, the Snow Goose (Chen caerulescens) numbers steadily increased during our 3-day stay. By the end of our trip, there were 390,000 Snow Geese on site. When the Bald Eagles (Haliaeetus leucocephalus) were not active, I did a lot of flight photography with the snow geese, particularly as they landed with the geese already on the ice. Here are a few of my favorite images:
The above geese seem to have a look of terror on their face. Maybe this is the reason:
Where do you land when there are this many geese? Well, there was room, you just had to find it … without landing on another goose!
In “Snow Geese, Part 2”, I will share some interesting images made when the Snow Geese erupted into a “blast off” all at once! I even played a bit with some intentional blurs of the Snow Geese in the air.
