Back in the Saddle Again!

After ~3 months of kayakless photography, I’m back in the saddle again! On my way to photography class (that I’m teaching) on Tuesday, I stopped by one of my favorite places to kayak. Last week when I checked it, there were some ducks and geese present, but a good layer of ice was covering the water. Tuesday … none! So I decided, right then and there, that I was going to take “Rubber Ducky” out Wednesday morning, even if the temps would only be mid-20’s!

Wednesday morning came and I dressed in my 3 layers of clothing for the cold kayak ride. Upon arrival at the location, a beautiful sunrise was in the process of developing. I quickly grabbed Rubber Ducky out of the bed of the truck, rested it on my shoulder, and hauled it to the water’s edge. Loaded up the paddle, my binocs, camera, and off I went. Shortly after arriving at my destination point, the sunrise was continuing to develop (~10 minutes away from actual sunrise), so I grabbed these images of some of the geese that were active:

By the way, this location is where I found traps set to catch fur-bearing critters this past December. During my trip yesterday, I did not see any beavers around either of the two lodges … hoping not all of them were exterminated, but it’s not looking good.  I did, however, have a lot of critters there to welcome me back to this location, including muskrats, a raccoon, several species of ducks, Canada geese, and even a young river otter! More images to follow in upcoming posts.
