It seems like each and every day out in the kayak brings more Red-winged Blackbirds (Agelaius phoeniceus) near the kayak. Today while sitting in the kayak and hidden under some Buttonbush branches, this male Red-winged Blackbird flew in to the island I was sitting at and began to call and display all around the kayak. He got so close, I was literally at the minimum focus distance from him! Here are a few of my favorite images from the kayak:
And this final image would have been so much better if he hadn’t managed to get behind a Buttonbush limb … Murphy’s Law of Photography: If there’s a branch or obstacle out there, the subject will certainly find it and place it between him and you … or he will get close enough that you can’t obtain a hard focus on him (like this instance)!
