Prothonotary Warblers

During my last few kayak outings, the Prothonotary Warblers (Protonotaria citrea) have been very busy. So far, I have only seen the males. But they have been busy setting up territories and fighting off other males who happen into their space. I really love these colorful little harbingers of spring, with their cheerful songs and colorful displays! Here are a few images I captured this past week: a closeup image of the little guy, an image as he serenades me, and an image of him with a small insect in his beak:
