A Wildflower Grows Up

Today I’m featuring one of the wildflowers species that has been blooming at the local prairie meadow. The Pale Purple Coneflower (Echinacea pallida) is in full bloom right now, but I caught this flower in both the early bloom and full bloom stages. In this first image, the flower is beginning to show itself, but still young:

And in this second image, the ray florets show their trademarked notched ends and are hanging down in their normal pattern:

As you can see, the Pale Purple Coneflower is very pale in color … sometimes, the ray florets are so pale that they are considered “white”.
