In the last 3 posts, I have highlighted our last trip to Anan Creek, located along Alaska’s Inside Passage. This black bear sanctuary sees a lot of visitors, all focused on the Black Bear (Ursus americanus). But there are other wildlife that can sometimes be spotted while hiking the trail back to the observatory. One sure bet is the Bald Eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus), which often appear fearless of humans, allowing for some nice close-up images:
And several Common Merganser (Mergus merganser) hens were seen with little ducklings, navigating Anan Creek:
On other trips to Anan Creek, visitors have even seen mink along the banks of Anan Creek. Unfortunately, we didn’t see any … but who knows, maybe this next trip there!
