… You Can See Russia From Up There!”
On my last Alaska boat trip, I stayed in Juneau for a few days before the trip started. My goal was to ride the tram up to Mt. Roberts, but as you can see from this image, low clouds were the norm every day of my stay there! Yes, I could have ridden up the tram, but the only thing I would have seen would have been the low clouds that separated me from the wonderful view below. So, I’ll try again at a later date.
Since the rain prevented a view from Mt. Roberts, I spent my time there wandering the city of Juneau and all the native arts and cultural sights. Here are a few of my finds.
This was an interesting old church in Juneau. Looks like some Russian influence on the architecture:
Just a block or two from my motel room, I found this wonderful art on the side of a building:
And in downtown Juneau, I found this wonderful sculpture of a brown (grizzly) bear, with his salmon dinner:
The plaque at the above statue read “Windfall Fisherman”. Windfall Harbor is one of the places I visited during the last boat trip, and will be returning there during my upcoming workshop. Windfall Harbor is in the heart of brown bear country in Southeast Alaska and there is a wonderful preserve (Pack Creek) nearby, which protects these bruins … I’ll try to post some photos from there shortly.
And the totems … what can’t you say about the totems! They are all such wonderful works of art and I really enjoy seeing and photographing them. Here are a couple I found in Juneau:
