Chill Out!

While hiking the Maroon Bells area of the Colorado Rockies, I stumbled upon a small patch of wildflowers, including these yellow beauties. Not sure of the identification, but appears to possibly be a sunflower of the genus Arnica (any ID help is certainly appreciated!):

Did you notice the small “inhabitant”, located near the center of this clump? I moved in closer and photographed this:

Although not frosted, the air temperatures this morning was on the cold side and this Bumble Bee seemed to be “frozen” to the wildflower … no movement, just clinging on! Apparently he had just finished his pollinating job … note the pollen on his face!

    Terrific images, Jim! It’s nice to see a little brightness this winter. How surprising that you came across this Bumble Bee. I thought I heard a bee yesterday and considered it quite possible with the temperature in the 50′s.
