Fun Friday: “Let’s Get Dirty!”

Today’s Fun Friday post images were made during last week’s Missouri road trip to get some spring wildflower images. While at Prairie State Park in southwest Missouri, I stopped to check out the wildflowers growing in the prairie and then noticed this male Horned Lark (Eremophila alpestris) in the middle of the gravel road, taking a “dust bath”!

By the way, the above images were made with my 180mm macro lens. I was driving down the road with my camera in my lap, ready for any inspiring wildflower I would see. When I looked up and saw this little guy having his dust bath, I could not reach my backup camera (in the back seat) that was set up for wildlife (100-400mm lens and 1.4x teleconvertor). And to get out of the car to get it would surely cause the bird to fly. So I eased the macro lens out of the window and began shooting. I gotta say that I much prefer shooting wildlife with my wildlife lens, rather than my macro lens … but ya gotta do what ya gotta do!

On Monday, I’ll continue sharing some of my recent road trip images of some pretty neat wildflowers and landscapes. Until then, have a wonderful weekend!
