Color on the Platte River
This post is being re-published from the spring of 2012. I am currently involved with a unique photography project that will take me 1-2 weeks. During this time, I will likely be on social media very little. I have set up a few posts to “self-publish” to my website blog; if/when time allows, I will […]

Keeping My Fingers Crossed!
A few days ago, I stopped by a local, Missouri Department of Conservation area. I was pleasantly surprised to find a couple of locations that had been recently plowed. In the past, these areas had been used to grow sunflowers in the summer, but had not been planted for 3 years. So, I’m keeping my […]

A Beauty Re-visited
(This post first appeared early in 2012, on a photo outing to capture some Short-eared Owl images): Over the weekend, I traveled to southwest Missouri to have some more Foto Fun with the Short-Eared Owls (Asio flammeus) that are wintering in some of the Missouri prairies. Well, the first evening was a bust. Short-Eared Owls […]

Juvenile Bald Eagles
Today I’m posting some previously unpublished images of juvenile Bald Eagles that congregate in early winter at Squaw Creek NWR in northwest Missouri. I was hoping to have made a return trip to the refuge by now, but the holiday activities, along with a bad GFCI breaker on my home refrigerator has been keeping me […]

Morning Snack Time
From a few years ago at Squaw Creek NWR in northwest Missouri, I captured this Great Blue Heron as he fished along the refuge waters: With the size of this fish, this guy had a lot of fishing ahead of him! Photographic Equipment Used: Canon 7D body Canon EF 500mm, f/4 IS lens + Canon […]

A Lightweight on a Heavyweight
Came upon this image while looking for blog material this morning. While photographing the dragonflies that I featured over the past few posts, I also came upon this Halloween Penant that was resting atop an Ironweed wildflower: I always enjoy finding/photographing dragonflies and butterflies in the meadow, especially when they are on/around colorful wildflowers. Photographic […]

Eastern Pondhawk Dragonfly Males
While photographing the Halloween Penant dragonflies, I also came upon some male Eastern Pondhawk dragonflies. Interestingly, the Eastern Pondhawks are all green with black markings in the immature stage. As they mature, the males begin turning blue, from the rear to the front, until they are all blue. The females, however, remain green. Here are […]

Slender Skyrockets
While editing my large database of images, I came upon a cool wildflower that I have never posted. While camping at Maroon Bells (Colorado) a few years ago, I came upon the Slender Skyrocket (Ipomopsis tenuituba), a very unique flower: Very cool plant! Photographic Equipment Used: Canon 7D body Canon EF 100mm-400mm f/4.5-5.6 IS lens […]

Sandhills and Sunsets
Another post from my 2012 trip to the Platte River (Nebraska) for migrating Sandhill Crane photography. Hoping to have fresh, 2015 images in a post tomorrow (barring being too busy capturing images!) :o) The Platte River trip started out slowly, with rain sporadically hindering us. But as the week progressed, we began receiving beautiful weather […]
