Featured Information
Due to my recent move to the Lake of the Ozarks, along with the Covid issues, I am currently not teaching group classes. However, I am available for private individual or very small group, in-the-field teaching, where we can safely learn more about our cameras and our photographic techniques..

Fun Friday: Where is Spring?
With temperatures in the Midwest dipping so low, I thought a cute, winter image would be appropriate for this week’s “Fun Friday” post: This image was captured in beautiful Yellowstone NP, in the middle of winter. As the free-ranging Bison forage for food, they swing their large, muscular heads side-to-side to remove snow from the […]

Fun Friday: What Kind of Pie is for Dessert? (Re-post)
Yummm … Magpie! Actually, this Black-billed Magpie (Pica hudsonia) was in no real danger. The Bald Eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus) had a piece of fish in his talons (not visible from this angle, due to the snow) and was just being vigilant that this magpie didn’t move in to grab a piece.

Merry Christmas!
On this Christmas Day, I’m featuring a couple of images I made a couple of years ago on a winter photo trip to Yellowstone National Park. This first image was made in Gardiner, Montana, just outside Yellowstone National Park. During the evening twilight, we found a spot overlooking Gardiner and set up to shoot some […]

Fun Friday: Thief! (Re-post)
(Note: this post originally published in February, 2011, after returning home from a visit to Yellowstone National Park) Time for another “Fun Friday” post … one of those “just for fun” images/stories! Today’s post includes an image of an unlikely “thief”, caught in action, in Yellowstone NP. On my last day in the interior of […]

Yellowstone’s West Thumb, Part 1
When we first pulled up to the “warming hut” in the West Thumb area of Yellowstone, we were greeted with amazing light … the morning was very cold (remember, it was -38°F when we got up!). Combining with all the steam from the numerous thermal pools of West Thumb, the light filtering through the trees created a very […]

Fun Friday: “Mirror, Mirror …”
It’s been a while since I’ve posted a “Fun Friday” post, one just for fun, so here goes. As I was quietly sitting along the creek bank waiting for beavers, a flurry of bird activity started up. There were various kinds of birds observed: flickers, downy woodpeckers, tufted titmice, American goldfinches, a wren (not yet […]
