Sunny Side Up

(This was part of a post that originally published after my 2009 Baja photo trip)  On the Pacific side of the Baja peninsula, we saw a Sunfish (Mola mola) swimming near the surface: A rather strange looking animal!

Once Again …

… here is our friend the Great Blue Heron (Ardea herodias) from the Squaw Creek NWR, in northwest Missouri (this is the same heron I featured in yesterday’s post). This guy was an excellent fisherman, catching many more fish than not. I was surprised at the small size of the fish he was catching. In […]

So, How Good A Fisherman Are You?!! (Re-post)

(This post originally published in July 2010) Yesterday, while working indoors (still raining here) I was going through my Lightroom database of images from the last 7 years, doing some “hard core” editing to free up more space on my hard drive. One of the images I ran upon was taken at Hallo Bay Bear […]

Fingers Crossed! (Re-post from 2010)

(Note: This post originally published in June, 2010) This morning I’m heading back out in the kayak, and I’ve got my fingers crossed that soon I will get some more photo opps with the Belted Kingfisher (Ceryle alcyon). I have seen a few this year, but the fish fry have just been too small for […]

Can You Spell B-a-l-a-n-c-e? (Re-post)

(This post originally posted in June 2010) With fish fry now in the local Conservation area, there will soon be Belted Kingfishers and Green Herons fishing the area I kayak. So far, I have seen both species, but they are not actively fishing. I believe that when the fish are a bit bigger, the birds […]

Chasing Fish

One of the most exciting things to watch when viewing the Alaska Brown Bear (Ursus arctos) in the early fall, is to watch them chase the incoming salmon. As the salmon emerge from the ocean and make their way up the streams and creeks to their home spawning grounds, the brown bears are waiting. As […]

A Kayak Adventure (Re-post)

(This post was originally published in June, 2010) With the slowdown in the number of rains moving through our area, I was able to get out in the kayak 3 times this past week. I am currently working a State Conservation area that is about 10 miles from my house. When I awoke yesterday morning, […]

A Fishing Lesson

Ring-billed Gulls (Larus delawarensis) were quite active when the water was not frozen over at Eagle Bluffs Conservation Area (during the cold mornings, the gulls were seen flying and fishing over the nearby Missouri River. Here is a sequence I shot of one Ring-billed Gull as he fished the area’s waters:         […]

In Search of a Lunker

Last week, I posted some images of a rare visitor to Squaw Creek NWR, a juvenile White-Faced Ibis (Plegadis chihi). Today, I’m sharing some images of this little guy fishing the refuge waters … and quite successfully!               Online-Photography-Classes.com
