Due to my recent move to the Lake of the Ozarks, along with the Covid issues, I am currently not teaching group classes. However, I am available for private individual or very small group, in-the-field teaching, where we can safely learn more about our cameras and our photographic techniques..

Fun Friday: Please Don’t Eat the Flowers!
Today’s Fun Friday post comes from 2013, while photographing in the beautiful Glacier National Park in northwest Montana. I came upon this image over the weekend, while working on assembling information for a return trip to the park next summer. This image was captured early in the morning, just a few days after the park […]

Fun Friday: Peek-a-Boo!
Today’s Fun Friday post comes from Glacier NP, where I spent a week in early July. At Logan Pass, this cute little Columbian Ground Squirrel (Urocitellus columbianus) wanted to play “Peek-a-Boo” with me: Photographic Equipment Used: Canon 7D body Canon EF100mm-400mm, f/4.5-f/5.6 IS lens, shot at 400mm Handheld, with IS “On” ISO 250 Aperture f/5.6 […]

Fun Friday: Not “(Quite)” What It Looks Like!
During my July trip to Glacier NP, I caught some flack from my wife. As we drove along the top of the Going-to-the-Sun Road, I was mesmerized by the many waterfalls that were active across the valley. At one point, I saw a good pullout and decided to grab a scenic shot of one of […]

Bear Grass
On my first entry into Glacier NP, I thought I would not see Bear Grass (Xerophyllum tenax) wildflowers growing. The late snowstorm had made pretty much everything in the park late, and there was very little Bear Grass growing on the first day … and the few plants seen were not really accessible for photography. […]

Fun Friday: Talk About a Burrow!
While photographing Mountain Goats in the rocky landscape of Glacier NP, an amusing Hoary Marmot (Marmota caligata) ran about the snow slope and ended up at his “burrow”, which was actually a hole he had dug into the deep snow, just to get to his burrow! Glacier NP received a heavy snowstorm in late June, […]

Wild Geranium
Again this trip, I found many Wild Geraniums (Geranium caespitosum) growing around the meadows and edges of woodlands in Glacier NP (Montana). These plants grow from 1 to 2 feet high and produce brilliantly colored flowers that range from 3/4-inch to 1-inch in diameter. Photographic Equipment Used: Canon 5D Mark 3 body Canon EF180mm, f/3.5 […]
White-crowned Sparrow
While photographing Columbian Ground Squirrels, several White-crowned Sparrows (Zonotrichia leucophrys) would frequently fly into the Glacier Lilies and search out seeds and insects: Photographic Equipment Used: Canon Canon EF100-400mm, f/4.5-5.6, IS lens Handheld, with IS “On” ISO 250 (top photo) and ISO 500 (bottom photo) Aperture f/5.6 Shutter 1/400 sec. and 1/800 sec.

Early Morning Beauty
An early morning drive on the Going-to-the-Sun Road (Glacier NP, Montana) can be a rewarding experience: As we rounded a sharp corner, the light was just beginning to hit the top of a mountain, across the valley. Clouds were really pouring in … and gaining altitude with every turn of the car wheel, we were […]

Beaver Pond Trail
While in Glacier NP, one morning I decided to hike the Beaver Pond trail, near St. Mary Lake. The day before, I had talked to one of the Park Rangers about wildflower locations and he recommend that I hike the Beaver Pond trail, as he had recently hiked it and found lots of wildflowers in […]

Wildflower Meadow of St. Mary
While driving the Going-to-the-Sun Road, I came upon a wonderful meadow that contained many different species of wildflowers … and in such a scenic location! Here is one of my images of this beautiful location within Glacier NP: In the background, one of Glacier’s many mountain peaks is only slightly visible due to the low […]
