Fun Friday: Between a Rock & Hard Place
Whenever I photograph in the Mount Evans area, I always look forward to being with the mountain goats that call Mount Evans home, and particularly the young kids. Born in June, they are full of play and so much fun to watch. As in past years, I was able to photograph the mountain goats near […]

Got Milk?!
While photographing the Mountain Goats along the Mount Evans Highway, this nanny goat made a mistake … stopping to survey her surroundings. Seeing this, Junior thought it was time for an afternoon snack! At this age (approx. 7 weeks old), the nannies seem to be trying to wean the kids, but that doesn’t mean the […]

Fun Friday: You Take the High Road, I’ll Take the Low Road
Today’s “Fun Friday” post comes from the parking lot of Summit Lake, about 5 miles from the summit of Mount Evans, in Colorado. While driving to the summit, I always stop by Summit Lake to check out the wildlife. Most of the time, I will see either Bighorn Sheep ewes and newborn lambs, or Mountain […]

Mountain Goats in Wildflowers
A couple of times while driving the Mount Evans Highway, I found groups of Mountain Goats grazing along the slopes, in beautiful wildflowers. This group was captured at Summit Lake, about 5 miles from the summit: I love catching about any wildlife in wildflowers. The contrast of the wildflowers and the wildlife always makes the […]

Fun Friday: No If’s, And’s or Butts, Please!
A week ago, I had an exciting encounter with a juvenile Mountain Goat along the Going-to-the-Sun road in Glacier National Park (Montana). While I was photographing a small family of mountain goats that were descending from the high mountains to lower ground, a second pair of mountain goats (a mom and a juvenile) were foraging […]

Mountain Goats, Part 2
Following up on yesterday’s post, “Mountain Goats, Part 1”, two of the goats decided to leave the snow-covered hillside and wander into the parking lot … and even in the Going-to-the-Sun Road. Here are some images I captured as they walked around the parking lot, road and nearby boardwalk: In the second image, you can […]

Mountain Goats, Part 1
My first day to the Continental Divide of Glacier NP (Logan Pass), I happened on a Mountain Goat (Oreamnos americanus) family that was traversing the snowy and rocky terrain of the area. Here are a few of my favorite images from that morning: And climbing up to a ledge along the steep wall, this juvenile […]

Fun Friday: With a Little Help From My Friends!
Here is one final (maybe :o) ) post of the Mount Evans mountain goats. One morning, while photographing a large group of goats at the summit of Mount Evans, I ran across this interesting scene: As you can see momma was at the top of the wall and baby was trying his best to […]

Fun Friday: Do Goats Play “Twister”?
During my recent trip to Mount Evans (Colorado), I caught this young Mountain Goat kid stretching between a couple of boulders … reminds me of the game “Twister”, where one must have their hands and feet on specified color circles, often causing great distortions to do so! :o)
