Featured Information
Due to my recent move to the Lake of the Ozarks, along with the Covid issues, I am currently not teaching group classes. However, I am available for private individual or very small group, in-the-field teaching, where we can safely learn more about our cameras and our photographic techniques..

Gooseberry Falls
Another waterfall that I encountered along Minnesota’s North Shore was Gooseberry Falls, located within Gooseberry State Park. This waterfall is a very photogenic one, and even has a cave at the far end! Photo Equipment Used: Canon 1D Mark 3 body Canon EF 28mm-135mm IS lens Bogen 3221 tripod, with Kirk Ent. HD ballhead 3-stop […]

Go With the Flow
Back in September, I traveled to Minnesota’s North Shore to photograph the fall colors. Along the shores of Lake Superior, Tettegouche State Park lies. The Baptism River runs through the park, making it’s way down to the lake. And on the Baptism River lies Illgen Falls. Here are a few images of the Baptism River, […]

A Lighthouse in the Fog
When I traveled to Minnesota’s North Shore in September, I was hoping to catch the Split Rock Lighthouse in some nice fall colors. But with the absence of good fall colors, I managed to catch the famous landmark in some dense fog and mist. In fact, it rained all day! Early in the pre-sunrise, this […]

Fun Friday: Looking for a Handout
During last month’s visit to Minnesota’s North Shore, this little guy followed me around the Grand Marais harbor, looking for a handout: I can report that he had no luck with me. First, I had no food items with me. But more importantly, even if I had, I would not have fed him. Cute … […]

Cascade Falls
While visiting Minnesota’s North Shore area, one of the stops was at Cascade State Park, which is conveniently located right along the highway that follows Lake Superior up the coast. Cascade State Park has several falls along Cascade River. This post features the highest falls, Cascade Falls. A short walk from the highway is all […]

Butter-And-Eggs … Yummm
During my recent Minnesota trip, I found a new wildflower for me, the “Butter-and-Eggs” (Linaria vulgaris): This beauty is in the Figwort family, and also known as Toadflax. It grows 1-3 feet high and the flowers are 3/4″ to 1″ long, and gets it’s common name of Butter-and-Eggs from it’s uncanny resemblance to just that […]

Colorful Caterpillar
I just returned home last night, from a 10-day trip to Minnesota. A lot of interesting experiences, as well as visiting with relatives on my wife’s side. One of the areas I photographed was the North Shore area, along Lake Superior. At Grand Marais, I stopped to photograph the lighthouse in the harbor. While walking […]

Minnesota – Split Rock Lighthouse (Re-post)
(This post originally published in August, 2010) Over the past week, I have been photographing in Minnesota. My wife’s family had a family reunion this past weekend and we decided to travel several days prior to the reunion, so that I could photograph some of the landscapes and wildlife on the trip. The first day […]
