Featured Information
Due to my recent move to the Lake of the Ozarks, along with the Covid issues, I am currently not teaching group classes. However, I am available for private individual or very small group, in-the-field teaching, where we can safely learn more about our cameras and our photographic techniques..

Yellowstone’s West Thumb, Part 2
In “Yellowstone’s West Thumb, Part 1”, we never made it out of the parking lot! After photographing the wonderful light filtering through the trees and the steam, I headed past the warming hut to the boardwalk that circumnavigates the West Thumb thermal pools. Although it was difficult, I managed to pull out my 3 favorite images (from […]

Yellowstone’s West Thumb, Part 1
When we first pulled up to the “warming hut” in the West Thumb area of Yellowstone, we were greeted with amazing light … the morning was very cold (remember, it was -38°F when we got up!). Combining with all the steam from the numerous thermal pools of West Thumb, the light filtering through the trees created a very […]

Yellowstone’s Keppler Cascades
After reaching the Old Faithful Snow Lodge, we unloaded and checked into the lodge. The next day, we awoke to a frigid -38°F! After an early breakfast, we boarded another snowcoach, this time a Bombardier special … a very different snowcoach than the van conversion model that got us to Old Faithful. The Bombardier was […]
Yellowstone Winter Images
Today’s post includes some more images made along our ride in the snowcoach, from Mammoth Hot Springs to Old Faithful. These images were made near/along the Firehole River, as we neared the Old Faithful area. This area has a lot of thermal pools and geysers in the area and thus offers a wonderful, wintery view of steam-engulfed landscapes.

Yellowstone’s Trumpeter Swans
During my recent Yellowstone trip, I took a snowcoach from Mammoth Hot Springs to the Old Faithful Snow Lodge, where I stayed for a couple of days. In winter, a snowcoach is the only way (besides snowmobile) to get to Old Faithful. Along the 4 hour ride, we saw a lot of wildlife, including a […]

WolfWednesday – “Yellowstone Druids” (Images from 2008)
In last week’s WolfWednesday’s post, I mentioned the famous Druid wolf pack of Yellowstone’s Lamar Valley. This post is in memory of this famous pack, who presented many wolf-watchers and photographers many great photo opps over a 14-year time period. Unfortunately, the original Druid pack was killed off during the winter of 2009-2010, with only […]

Mammoth Hot Springs’ Lower Terraces, Part 2
Yesterday, I posted some images from the Lower Terraces of Mammoth Hot Springs (Yellowstone NP). Today’s post includes some other vantage points of this interesting area of the park. The thing that caught my eye in these images was the story that can be read from them … the story of how flora often grow […]

Mammoth Hot Springs’ Lower Terraces
Today’s post includes some images I made in Yellowstone NP, at the Mammoth Hot Springs’ Lower Terraces. This was my first time at the Lower Terraces and I can truly say I should have stopped here before, during my previous visits to Yellowstone! The Lower Terraces are very easy to reach, just 1/4 mile from the […]

Fun Friday – “Thief!”
Time for another “Fun Friday” post … one of those “just for fun” images/stories! Today’s post includes an image of an unlikely “thief”, caught in action, in Yellowstone NP. On my last day in the interior of the park, we boarded a snowcoach for the 4+ hour ride from the Old Faithful area to Mammoth […]
In Your Face …
… with snow. Having traveled to Yellowstone recently, I felt I had to post some of the obligatory images of bison with snow on their faces … the iconic images a lot of us picture when we hear “Yellowstone in the winter”. With snow amounts heavy in Yellowstone, it is hard for the grazing animals […]
