Meadow Birds & Critters

While in the meadow the other morning, I found and photographed several bird species. The first one I ran across appears to be a young Gray Catbird (Dumetella carolinensis). The dark patch on top of the head, as well as the black on the tail leads me to believe this is a recently-fledged catbird:

While photographing this youngster, a Yellow-billed Cuckoo (Coccyzus americanus), which are normally camera shy, flew into a nearby tree:

And remember the Part 1 post, where I featured a dragonfly covered with dew? While I was shooting him, a bashful Brown Thrasher (Toxostoma rufum) flew into some nearby brush and intently watched me for a couple of minutes:

And on my hike across the meadow to reach the parking lot, a large group of Tree Swallows (Tachycineta bicolor) were perched in some small trees, including this juvenile who was busy preening and stretching:

Besides these birds, I also saw a White-tailed doe with her fawn:

And a beautiful Clearwing Hummingbird Moth that was perched, trying to warm up and lose the dew:

All in all, a very good morning on the meadow! Now, back to some recent travel images ….
