Another beauty that frequented my front yard Ice Kingdom last week was the Northern Cardinal (Cardinalis cardinalis). This male paused on my ice-covered weeping cherry shrub long enough for a few quick captures:
Such a cheerful bird … even in the deepfreeze of an icy winter. But hearing the Cardinals singing in the spring is really an experience! By the way, I have counted over 30 Cardinals (males and females) on my covered front porch at a time, especially when it’s very cold and snow on the ground. And even with that count, I can look out into the trees and see probably that many more, just waiting for a place to land on the porch!
