Beware, Mother’s Nearby!

This is always an interesting sight … baby alligators! But beware … where the babies are, momma is! Here is a closeup of a couple of her babies:

And right behind them, is mom, mostly submerged:

Finding baby alligators is always a potentially dangerous situation, as momma gator is always nearby. In this instance, danger was not an issue as I was above the gators, on a wooden boardwalk … with sides!

Photo Equipment Used:

  • Canon 1D Mark 3 body
  • Canon EF100mm-400mm, f/4.5-f/5.6 IS lens + Canon 1.4x TC
  • Handheld
  • ISO 1600 (due to heavy undercover causing deep shadows)
  • Aperture f/11
  • Shutter 1/640 sec. (top photo) and 1/400 sec. (bottom photo)
