Fun Friday: Hangin’

While in Everglades NP this winter, I came across this Red-bellied Woodpecker (Melanerpes carolinus), hanging upside-down from a tree along the Anhinga Trail, just hanging out:

Sex of this bird can be determined by it’s midcrown color … males have a red midcrown, while the female has a tan midcrown.

Photographic Equipment Used:

  • Canon 7D body
  • Canon EF100mm-400mm, f/4.5 – f/5.6, IS lens, shot at 400mm
  • Handheld, with IS “On”
  • ISO 800
  • Aperture f/5.6
  • Shutter 1/1000 sec.
