On my 2-day stopover in Quivira NWR in November, I was hoping to catch some migrating Whooping Cranes. Instead, all I got was several thousand Sandhill Cranes (Grus canadensis) :o) Here are a few images I captured of groups of the cranes as they returned to the refuge in the evening, to roost:
This gave me a small preview of what I’m expecting to see when I photograph along the Platte River in Nebraska, this upcoming spring when the cranes are returning northward. :o)
