Those Fabulous Fall Leaves

I enjoyed a few days “off” and have been busy chasing fall colors around the Midwest. I spent 3 days in Madison County, Iowa (anyone ever heard of the “Bridges of Madison County”?), photographing the 6 covered bridges and fall colors. Had some nice weather and lots of photo ops, even though I missed peak colors by just 2-3 days :o(

As things turned out, some strong winds in the Midwest shook a lot of leaves off the trees as I was traveling to Madison County. But even so, we still had some nice colors to work with. With the absence of large groves of trees in brilliant colors, I’m featuring some closeups of the beautifully-colored leaves I found. And I’ll be sharing some of the covered bridge images in upcoming posts. Today’s post, from Madison County, shows some of the fall colors that greeted us, including some in rain showers:

Photographic Equipment Used:

  • Canon 5D Mark 3 body
  • Canon EF 180mm, f/3.5 macro lens + Canon 1.4x Teleconverter
  • Bogen 2021 tripod, with Studioball ballhead
  • ISO 200 to ISO 1600 (depending on wind/light conditions at the time)
  • Aperture f/5.6 to f/16
  • Shutter 1/8 sec. to 1/60 sec.
